Back to School…..Teacher Edition

Back to school

Welcome to August!! I hope things are working out great for you this month. It’s my birthday month so I am usually upbeat around this time. But it also brings about all the back to school hoopla. Being a teacher I thought I would give the non-educators a bit of what we look forward to with the beginning of the school year.

Here are some things teachers have to look forward to with the start of the new school year:

Your sleep pattern screws up two weeks before you go back:

I am outraged!!! The first month and a half of summer I would go to sleep at 1030 and wake up at 630 am with no problems. I could even get in little naps. Now that it’s August my body and mind are rebelling. I lay down at 1030 at night and my eyes don’t close until 2 am. Really body? You know good and well we have to start waking up at 5 am…..what is your problem?

Now you will know the actual date and time:

For teachers the only dates we know during the summer are Memorial Day weekend, the last day of school, and the day we have to report back to school. That’s it. Other than that if there isn’t a professional development scheduled in June or July or even a vacation planned, we lose all concept of days and time. Sometimes you may look up and have lost of couple of days because it’s really not that important.

You have to uninstall the games on your phone:

You gotta let them go. Now our days are about to be filled with meetings, professional development, oh and teaching and engaging our students. So candy crush will have to wait until your next long break. I’m an Empires and Puzzles fan myself. All of this will have to take a back seat so that we can get our minds to function on the right wavelength.

You have to remind your friends not to mention you in the group text:

I don’t know about you but my group chats can be the highlight of my day. My friends and I celebrate each others accomplishments, update each other on important news, and give immediate comfort when someone is just having a crappy day. Now I will have to wait until lunch or my off period (depends which comes first) to respond. If your group chat is like mine then it’s possible you need to ask someone for a recap lol

Time to train your bladder again:

Le sigh…this is the one I hate the most. Retraining my bladder. There’s no more going to the potty when you want. I mean you can but you might lose your job for leaving the students unattended without finding someone to cover your class. Once you figure out your schedule it can be pretty easy. You’ll be able to schedule your drinks of water and when you can sprint to the restroom.

If you’re reading this and you are not a teacher, pray for us. We need it. If you are a parent and happy your kids are going back, keep that same energy when we contact you about lil Sarah and Lil Johnny’s behavior in class. Don’t hit us with “They don’t ever act like that with me” especially if you’re about to throw a whole going away party for them on the first day of school.

#LessonsLearned: I Don’t Have Time

I don't have time
Day 8 and away we go. Just a recap, #30daysofblogging is still going strong. I am in a better mental place AND my productivity is kicking booty. I got something I need to get off my chest though. My really good sister-friend Kimbrella uses one of my favorite phrases to state how she feels about foolishness “I DON’T HAVE TIME!!!” That’s the way I feel about certain things in life….I DON’T HAVE TIME. Anything that’s not productive or life changing is a waste of time I do not have. What’s the purpose of putting energy into things that aren’t beneficial to my life right now. I have enough on my plate as it is.
Things I DO NOT have time for:

Hyper judgmental people:

Why, WHY must we still be on this judgmental thing: Like it’s 2019, we’ve had a black president, taken multiple trips to the moon and outer space, even electric cars. People still have opinions about what others are doing with their lives. Guess what there’s more than one way to do things, so stop. Stop getting mad because people aren’t doing what you think they should do. Also how about you go judge ya mama because she probably ain’t doing nothing you want her to do either.

People who are just mean for the simple fact of being mean:

So I was looking through my comments and ratings for the podcast and somebody gave me a one star rating. Now if I wasn’t secure in myself I would have been shaken, but come on now lol 1 star hahahhaha that’s hilarious. Which leads me to this, why are you so miserable with your life that you have to make everyone else miserable? What is your purpose? Do you need a hug? Or maybe just something productive to do like actually doing something semi positive for someone else…..just maybe.

People who try to find you even though you’ve blocked them on pretty much everything:

If I block you guess what DON’T FIND ME ON ANYTHING ELSE. It means leave me alone. Don’t you find it strange that you are telling me to call you from LinkedIn and it’s not about a job opportunity. I don’t have time for your foolishness that’s why you were blocked in the first place.

People that are stuck:

Okay so you are stuck. You are in a place in your life that is uncomfortable and you don’t know your next move. We have all been there but you don’t have to stay in that position. You can make a plan and get out. It may not be easy but you can do it. Life is too short to dwell in a dead place and no one wants to constantly hear about it. So if you’re stuck…..MOVE something…anything just move.

People who lie about the most simple things:

My God in Heaven, why lie about the simplest things. Now I know sometimes people tell “white lies” to get out of tough situations, I get it. Is it right, nope but I get it. Now here’s my issue, when you lie all the freaking time for things that don’t even matter. Like I don’t get it. Here’s the issue, once you tell one lie, you have to keep lying. Look telling the truth may be hard but it’s the best way to go.
I hope this isn’t as petty as it sounded while I was typing it. But when I say I don’t have time, I mean I DON’T HAVE time. Honestly no one really has time for any of this foolishness. And neither should you. As I have told many of my students, life is too long AND too short to deal with any of the above or anything else you feel is just interfering with you living your best life. Make sure you listen to the podcast tomorrow which will be live on Facebook at 8 pm. We are going to talk about the journey to living a fulfilled life.

#lessonslearned First Comes Love Then Marriage…Then a Kid?!?!?

My eye

Day 6 and awwaaayyyy we go!! I’m proud of myself. Never would I have thought I would have made it this long with consistency (yes I know it’s only been 6 days). I’ll talk about that in tomorrow’s entry though. Today I want to talk about my hopes and dreams of one day having a kid. I’m so happy that God blessed me with a happy marriage and 2 amazing bonus kids. I promise I will seriously hurt someone over these two. Honestly they are the reason we aren’t in a big rush to have a little chocolate bundle of joy. But I can’t help but think what the little superhero would be like (yep that what he/she will be…have you not met me?)

Now I have a couple of things that I need people to know before I even think about getting preggo.

If I don’t ask then shhhhhhhhh……

I see this all the time, people giving women unsolicited advice while they are pregnant or about raising kids. What kind of egomaniac do you have to be to do this? That person has a whole support system that are full of educated or experienced individuals. Who are you to interject ideas and opinions on anyone else? If I don’t ask you then guess what don’t tell me nothing. You may think you are helping out but you have know clue what the whole situation is behind that mother and child.

I will love on my kid as much as I want

DON’T TELL ME MY CHILD WILL BE SPOILED IF I HOLD THEM TOO MUCH. Look black babies enter this world with SEVERAL setbacks. Why would I damage that baby anymore than what the world is going to do to them? So yes I will comfort them when they are sad. No I will not let them cry it out every single time. Do you know that’s how sociopaths are created. This is how you teach your children healthy emotional relationships and attachment. Oh and I’m not just talking about if I have a girl, nope this will happen with my boy as well. We need to teach both our sons and daughters that it’s okay to show emotions and feelings. Maybe this will cut down on the amount of broken unemotional adults that are passing their brokenness to others.

They can make all the messes they want

Studies have shown that children that are allowed to make messes to discover make better connections. They become better problem solvers. You can teach babies how to be messy and how to clean. So if you come in my house and we are both covered in shaving cream or water  don’t be worried. We might be having a drum solo on all the pots in the middle of the living room, just put in the complimentary ear plugs and mind your business. My baby will know that not all messes are bad and you can clean up just about anything. This the reason why my house has never been or will ever be NOT child friendly

If they don’t want to go to you guess what….

I shouldn’t have to explain this but here we go. Kids still have a built in sensor of “I’m not comfortable” and adults seem to ignore that to make other adults feel better. I refuse to take a baby that isn’t reaching for me, why because that child isn’t comfortable around me. So don’t get offended if I don’t make my kid go to you. I will respect my child’s boundaries.

If you haven’t figured it…I’m going to be that extra parent. Just warning you now. So for those who keep asking when, just know I’m going to be super extra. #lessonslearned Adulting Is A Scam

Adulting sucks

Hey, hey, and hey!! #30daysofblogging is still going strong. Let’s talk about this scam called adulting. I hate it!!! I blame my parents and those adults I had constant contact with through the years. They made it seem like they were having an absolute ball, when in reality they were just fumbling through it too. I have a couple of things I want to get off my chest so adulting will know that I’m onto it’s scam (lil B.A.N… all me what this means in person and I’ll tell you).

Life is full of boring, repetitive, mundane tasks.

It’s all stupid!! All of it! Look I thought I was going to have an adventure everyday in adulthood. I could do what I want, when I want and how I want. Nope it’s all a farce. The most excitement I get in a day is realizing all my bills are paid and I have enough money leftover to maybe get a drink. Seriously Adulting meme 1there’s not a day that doesn’t go by where I’m NOT listening for something to make a weird noise or breaks down. Ughhh which reminds me I have to look for someone to replace the roof soon (I DON’T WANNA DO IT!!!!)

None of us really know what we’re doing

I’m a teacher by profession which really sucks because the EXPECTATION is that I have this adulting thing down. When your students see you they see a beaming pillar of adulthood….right? No, nope, uhhh uhh, nah. None of us adults really know what we are doing. It’s like we are all walking around in the dark trying not to trip over furniture, just some of us have been doing it longer than others.Adulting meme2

I see it like this each generation is looking to get advice from the one before us but honestly it’s all just what we experienced in life. Don’t believe me? Okay do this, go talk about a problem with someone who you think is more adult than you and really listen to their advice. If you listen closely you can hear the absolute insecurity behind their confidence. They really don’t know if their advice is going to help your situation. I’m pretty sure most of our grandparents are looking at life and wondering how could they EVER relate to the things we’re going through.

Making friends is hard

I love my friends I really do, but making friends now isn’t as easy as when you were little. Back then it was simply “Do you want to play____” or “I like you hair/dress/doll/….etc”. As adults we are trying to figure out who is the most comfortable with our trauma. Who will accept all my issues and say “Sure, let’s be friends”. You have to find somebody who’s willing to be vulnerable with your issues and you have to be the same with theirs.

Family…..ummm

Family is a little different when adulting as well. You start to realize you may love them but ummm you don’t really like them. You start to see the toxic qualities and realize they aren’t really healthy to be around. Family begins to become who you accept in and not always what you were born into (I think I said that right). You get to define family and you don’t have to feel guilty about it.

Your dreams don’t mean Sugar Honey Ice Tea

I swear I cried when my dreams of adulthood slowly began to fade. As someone once told me “Your dreams don’t mean $#:+”, and they were right. As you get older you figure out dreams are not fairytales. Things don’t just fall into place….. unless your born into a wealthy family. Your dreams are your vision, your visions evolve into plans and your plans require work. Your dreams don’t mean $#:+ if all your going to do is talk about them.  You don’t want to be THAT friend that has all the bright ideas and dreams but only talks about it. You will soon see the people around you will start to move around when you talk about your BIG IDEAS (insert eyeroll).

Adulting meme 3

The only real comfort I can give you is this: adulting might be a scam BUT you can have some good times along the way.

1.Cherish every moment

2. Don’t hold onto foolishness

3. Be genuine

4. Accept everybody for who they are, not whthey can give you.

#LessonsLearned: I Want My 90s Television Back

Hey…Hello…Hi!!!

Welcome back to the red couch. Come on in and take a seat. Now we aren’t going to watch regular television. No, no, no….I hate that trash. I’m tired of seeing beautiful black women and men on television shows that encourage dissension, bitterness and utter chaos. Nope that ain’t me. I can’t tell you the last time I watched a Love and, Housewives, True… etc. All of it is garbage….like seriously I can only watch so much before I feel all that fake negative energy creep into my peace.

With that being said let me grab this wonderful Fire-stick remote so we can watch some 90s sitcoms. I’m not talking about Friends or The Nanny. Nope,

Sitting drinking my wine watching my 90s sitcoms
This is the way I watch my shows ❤

although it was great programming, they did not shape my wonderful preteen/teenage brain. I want to see television shows like A Different World and Living Single come back (and not just a reboot). I want shows that show brown men and women in a positive light. Shows that give us a better representation of what we can and should be.

Here are my reason’s as to why they need to come back:

You could see a person of color on television that wasn’t a criminal or just struggling to get by.

Of Course Tommy on Martin didn’t have a job, but you didn’t see him struggling. I loved Black 90s sitcoms for the simple fact that they showed people of color (P.O.C) thriving. They weren’t worried about living check to check or catching a case for doing something illegal. The characters in these shows were making their way. They were positive representatives of the community. They gave us younger generation a better norm to follow. We could now strive to be successful and not fall into the stereotypes that society was placing upon us.

We saw positive relationships between people of color the majority of the series.

From Whitley and Kim on A Different World to Khadijah and her girls on Living Single, we saw the characters supporting one another and offering sound loving advice. Even the men in these sitcoms showed true brotherly love. If you never watched an episode of Martin or Living Single, you are missing out on good quality brotherly love. Even through the goofiness and punch lines they showed that these characters genuinely cared for one another and wanted to see each succeed.

They supported being an entrepreneur, going to college, and even having a trade.

From Maxine Shaw attorney at law to Kimberly Reese the budding medical student, we saw a spectrum of what we could do to be successful.

It didn’t always have to be the traditional route, Khadijah James (Living Single) started her own magazine after graduating and doing odd jobs to raise capital for her investment. Overton Wakfield Jones (Living Single) graduated from trade school and became an independent contractor (handyman), Martin (Martin) became a talk show host after starting out his career as a radio DJ.

These characters helped us see there was more to being successful than just going to college. They helped us understand that no matter what you do, hustle, put in hard work, and things will happen for you. You can tell because most of us 80s/90s (early 90s like 90-93 lol) have been pushing through trying to make something of ourselves in this Orange fool’s ‘Merica. We are apart of the “Can’t Stop Won’t Stop” generation who believe in getting things done by any means necessary (well most of us).

They presented social and political issues on television

My goodness, the first time I heard about rape or date rape was on an episode of A Different World (season 2 episode 20). I saw innocent naive Freddie go out with Garth and he ignored her NO. It put me on alert. It helped me to understand my words should be respected whether I am on a date or at someone’s house. My NO will always mean NO and that was the final story. They also covered apartheid, AIDS awareness and combating the stereotypes that are held against black men and women.

Honestly, I don’t want a reboot of any of these shows. They fulfilled their purpose during their time. I just want to have more shows that focus on the Black issues in this day and age. Shout out to the writers of Insecure, Black-Ish. Boomerang, Grown-ish and Dear White People as well as various others who are trying to bring that vibe back to the mainstream.

#Lessonlearned: Improving dating In the 21st Century

I know….I know! You’re thinking “Girl aren’t you married” and “This has nothing to do with improving any type of relationships”. But, let’s think about the purpose of dating apps, they are supposed to deliver potential partners to singles in their area What you really get is a modge podge of foolishness. If dating apps did what they advertise then we would have more successful relationships. Instead you get a site that allows con artists, criminals, creeps, perverts and the like to prey on those who are just looking for suitable companions. Yes….why yes, I have had my fair share of foolishness on dating app (check out the post When did the Roles Reverse). This is my way of telling dating apps and sites that they need to do better!

Automatic background checks

This headline alone says it all: Dating App Killer . He used a popular dating site to lure unsuspecting women in, and well you can read about the rest. The issue is he had a past of violence against women. I feel that in order to cut down on issues like this there should be a link to a county’s arrests records. Sounds Big Brother-ish, but this will cut down on the amount of criminal activity that can happen when using dating apps. And it’s already avaliable for free!

Marital status check

Read these words as I type: STAY OFF DATING APPS IF YOU ARE MARRIED!!!! Aht aht!! Stop dating while married. You’re ruining it for the rest of the single folks and giving them trust issues. If you want to cheat they have an app for that, use that one. Stop it!! Dating apps can link county records to find marriage and divorce decrees. I am just now figuring this out, and it could have saved me a lot of frustration when I was in the dating game.

Employment/ entrepreneurial status

I understand employment status should not mean you can’t date. If you don’t have to work, that’s one thing. If all you have to offer is penis or vagina, then you should really just focus on yourself. There should be a way to check this. If there is a way to check someone’s living situation you can definitely check who they say they are employed with, or even if they have a valid DBA.

5 latest post on social media

In this day and age social media is a great indicator of someone’s personality. Yes, I know you are thinking people aren’t their true selves on social media, but it does give you a glimpse into the way their mind works. Seeing a person’s social media can help you see a persons interests or if they are just posers (fake woke, extreme right, sexist, etc).

Rating system after each date

I don’t know how fair this would be, nor do I care. I think you should be able to rate the person honestly after the first encounter. Of course, it would be based on certain criteria, and then there should be an overall experience rating. If you’ve watched the show Four Weddings then you know what I’m talking about. The people with the lowest ratings get kicked off the app. I don’t care some people just shouldn’t date.
You have to do a little searching on your own. Be diligent about who you date and what you’re getting yourself into.

#lessonslearned Planning a Wedding Is Not My Jam

Here we are on the cusp of October and I’m tired of trying to plan a wedding. I’m not this girl. I’m not even mentally prepared for this whole ordeal. There’s so many other things I can think of to do with this wedding budget. There are other things I can do with this time!! There are other things I can do besides figure out which flowers I’m going to carry down the aisle(which I’m not carrying btw brooch bouquet). I really don’t care honestly. All of this stress for 30 min….I’d rather plan for the rest of eternity that we are going to spend together. So this post is just a rant about the things I’d rather do besides this….

1. I’d rather elope!! Yep I said it. I rather throw on a dope dress and him look dapper in a suit and it’s just us and a few family members who will stand with us.

2. I don’t have anyone who REALLY knows me to bounce ideas around with. I’m busy, their busy, life is busy. I feel like I’m alone in a sea of tasks and I can’t communicate what I want or how I feel. People forget that I haven’t dreamed about this stuff. None of my vision boards, vision statements or anything ever had wedding plans on it. I just never thought this would happen.

3. Why all the hooplah for 30 min? Like for what, I don’t get it.

4. I see why people go to the courthouse and get it out the way.

5. I want to put the money we are saving for this small wedding

into something else; eliminating debt, down payment on a bigger house, a dream trip. You know something for us.

6. I’m tired of trying to drop weight for this day. I just want to be fluffy and fabulous. I’m 36 and this weight seems to want to stay with me so I think I’m just going to let it stay.

7. I’m tired of thinking about tshirts, charms, matching outfits etc for my nonbridesmaids and non participants of the wedding. Like I already didn’t want a wedding party but I feel bad about not getting things for my nonbridesmaids.

8. I honestly don’t want to try on another wedding dress. I hate them!

9. I should be enjoying this process with the women of my family but they have other things to do and I guess since I’m not making it important they aren’t either. Energy matches energy.

10. I honestly just want to lay in my bed huddled under the covers. My anxiety is at an all time high about this whole thing. I thought I was supposed to be happy doing all this right? But I feel like now I’m doing it more to impress other people who aren’t contributing financially to this whole stupid endeavor.

11. Okay last one….I really can’t involve everyone because everybody likes to interject their vision of their wedding into your’s and I don’t want it.

Maybe I’m just emotional because my uterus is trying to escape my body as I type. Or maybe I’m just done. And even with writing this I still think we should elope. I’m over this process. But whatever I guess whatever will happen is going to happen 🤷🏾‍♀️

Here are some pictures from my horrible experience at a chain bridal store. I hated every minute of it. The dresses I liked didn’t come in my size and the dresses in my size aged me almost 10 years. I go to a smaller bridal boutique next weekend that caters to curvy girls. I’m hoping the experience is better.

#lessonslearned You Won’t Be Everybody’s Cup of Tea….

Hey Kids!!! Welcome back to the misadventures and fooleries of Confessions From a Red Couch. I am pleased that you have came back for more tales of life, romance, and the in between. Like I’ve said I plan to share my lessons I have learned throughout life. This post is no different. So well let’s begin shall we…..

#lessonslearned: You will never be everybody’s cup of tea!

Now look…I know myself and my personality and I can tell you this, I am not everyone’s cup of tea. I have been talked about, passed over, thrown away, and looked down upon my whole entire life. I’ve been promoted, demoted, and everything in between but I’m still living and loving. Why do I keep progressing? Honey I learned I’m not for everybody and neither are you.

Now I’m not saying that it’s okay to be a butthole (please don’t), it’s not your job to rub people the wrong way on purpose. It’s not okay to treat people with a nasty attitude. It’s not okay to be the negative Nancy or a sobby Susan (sorry if your name is Nancy or Susan, just well alliteration 🤷🏾‍♀️), your job in life is to be the best you you can be inspite of people’s attitudes toward you. This is what I have learned:

Other people’s perception of you are not who you are in total. Everyone we encounter gets a glimpse of who you are and build upon that. If someone sees you always happy that’s the perception they have of you. If someone always sees you losing it and cussing others out, that’s their perception of you. The small windows of prescription that we allow people to see are how people then perceive us. People who saw me as JUST a track coach have a different perception of me as a Science teacher. Do I try to correct their perceptions… nope. Why? It’s what they believe and until they see me in any other capacity then what’s the point. Their perceptions don’t change who I am or who you are.

People have a right to not accept you for who you are, but as long as you’re not being oppressed you keep moving foward. Look I know we as a society are trying to push that we are all special, but if we are all special… then who is truly special? Yes we all have purpose, we all have things that only we can accomplish but are we God’s only gift to the world? Nope. Do people HAVE to treat you like your ish has never stank? Absolute not. The only thing people honestly have to do is treat you with respect….DAS IT!!!

I say all this to say….you ain’t for everybody and it’s okay. Keep living, loving and being yourself. You will find your tribe and be their cup of tea while being able to spill all the juicy tea honey ❤

Just trying to be freshed faced and not looking 36 😘

Hello failure, my old friend……

I see you summer….but why are you so hot so early? Anyway, summer is here and my summer body is NOT ready. At this point it doesn’t even matter. When I step out on the beach, the pool, the splash pad at the park you are going to get whatever is under these clothes. Why? It’s ALREADY too hot to wear clothes in Houston. I’m not about to be extra modest and uncomfortable because you don’t like my pudginess. Get over it….I already have.

Okay enough about the heat let’s, talk about something familiar and uncomfortable. We all make mistakes. We make decisions in life that are based on emotion, fear, our own idea of success, others failures, and our experiences. These decisions don’t always lead to great outcomes and that’s okay.

Failure helps us learn and move forward. I feel like I’ve had more failures in life than successes but others who look into my life see totally different. For instance after my first year of successful teaching and coaching I lost my job and it was my fault. I was scheduled to take the Texas Certification exams in August of 2008 but I was injured during a volleyball camp and had to have emergency surgery on the day of the exams. I spent half of that semester in physical therapy and depressed. I had no one to blame but myself and it was heart wrenching.

Now I got my job back with help, influence, and encouragement from a lot of people on team Janae, but I knew deep in my heart of hearts that I should have scheduled those exams earlier than August. It was a learning experience and from that I learned I had to trust myself again. We all make mistakes, in love, in career, in living, in life but you have to remember that you aren’t perfect and you have to trust your own judgement in life. Here’s some ways that can help:

1. Pray!!! God will never steer you wrong. Usually when we make mistakes we want to blame God for the bad stuff and take credit for the good stuff. Honestly God directs your path but it’s up to you to follow the path He sets. I didn’t pray about scheduling those exams nor did I take having them done seriously. I ignored the sense of urgency that I had each month to get the job done and in the end I reaped the benefits of that big old L (it actually turned out to be a good thing… I’ll talk about that later).

2. Learn from your mistakes. Take this as time to reflect on how you can improve yourself and the choices you have made. Did you listen to yourself as you made the decision? Did you go around red flags because you wanted to try it anyway? Trust your inner judgement. You know what’s right for you and believe in yourself. Most of the time when you reflect back on a decision you realize you ignored your first thought. You went against what you knew for yourself as truth. It’s okay we all do it.

3. Always remember you can move forward. Not matter how bad you have messed up you can start over again. That’s the beautiful thing about life. You can start over again without really having to explain things to anyone (even if you have kids…. they adapt). Moving forward is based off you trusting that you learned from your mistake and you can go forward in life. You can’t give up because you messed up! You know how many things we wouldn’t have in life if everyone stopped after they made one mistake?
That’s the process of life: you live, you make choices, you learn from the good and bad and you keep it moving. If I would have stopped after I lost my job I would be stuck in” what if” land. No one wants to be in that space! We all know people in that place: what if I would have went to school? What if I didn’t have these kids? What if…. blah, blah, blah! You’re stuck in a reality that hasn’t happened, just move forward make something happen (I know, I’ve been in what if land with my book….). Just trust yourself and do it. What’s the worst that could have? You write the book, you get the job, you cure cancer? Possibilities can be endless but you have to move forward!

Who sent you…..and we about to plan a what? 😲

Happy May to my peoples!!! We are almost at the halfway mark to the year. 2018 has been amazing!!! Ever since I started saying “yes” this year, new vision, new opportunities and new doors have been opened. I’m just hoping I can last these next 13 days of the school year. I have no clue why but 2017-18 school has been the LONGEST CRAZIEST school year ever. From hurricanes to snow days in the south and oh let us not forget the most wonderful idea of arming teachers (please note the sarcasm in that statement). I don’t know but this year has tested and tried my patience and faith. But with great joy I can say I’ve made it and I pray that the next couple of weeks will be amazing and quiet.

In other news… child I’m engaged!!! My Chocolate man proposed to me on April 28,2018. Yes this man decided to be stuck with the guarded, sarcastic, random, non-traditional, weirdo of which I represent in full force. He did it just how I thought it would happen and gave me the best present ever. He’s the one God sent to heal my heart and I’m so thankful. I still look at him and think “Who sent you? “. Im happy, but there’s one problem…..I have to plan a wedding (dun dun dunnnnnnnn!!!😖).

Okay, so here is when the anxiety sets in, think about it, I’m the woman who doesn’t believe in fairytales. I’m the one who laughs at shows like “Say Yes to the Dress” and banned it from ever being watched in my house. I’m the woman who always thought that IF I ever got married that people would at least have to take a whole week off from work because baby it will be a celebration. The mere thought of me allowing someone that close would have to be an act of God (God got big jokes….Him and Jesus ain’t funny lol).

So here’s a list of things I WILL NOT DO while planning this wedding:

1. I will not let anyone deter me from my wedding vision….. once I get one. Look for everyone that knows me knows that I am not a formal girl. So anything grand filled with pomp amd circumstance is not me. No grandiose, nothing over the top. I just want to share the moment with him and the people who really love me. And like I said earlier we are going to party until the wheels fall off because Lord knows it’s a celebration.

2. I refuse to spend a small fortune on something that is literally only going to last 30 min. Neither am I going to spend ridiculous money on the events leading up to the wedding. See the thing is we have to live after the wedding…. like for real we are going to have to spend the rest of our lives together (no lol like for real hahahah). If you know me and feel the absolute “need” to suggest something, make sure you ask my price range first. I refuse to spend a ridiculous amount of money something that’s literally only going to last 30 min. It’s just not fiscally responsible.

3. I’m not wearing white!!!

4. Do not….I repeat DO NOT get offended to what I may wear or the song I walk down the aisle to. (You have been warned 😇)

Lol most of these are just jokes. If you know my circle yall know some of this will not be happening at all…..or some of it might (because I’m grown and I’ll do what I want). Just please pray that all of this goes well and within a year or so everything will come together ❤
